Photos Of Your Heroes

Awhile back, a friend and I went to the Jim Carroll Memorial Service/Open Mike at the St. Mark's church in the East Village. One of Carroll's old stomping grounds, the church was the perfect setting for a rock n' roll eulogy by some of his prolific friends (like Patti Smith and Richard Hell- who both gave moving tributes in his honor). If you haven't read Just Kids, Patti Smith's National Book Award winning memoir of young struggling artists trying to make it NYC, definitely do it now. If you have, but can't get enough of images of serious rock icons as hip young things- starting today photographer Steven Sebring will be displaying at Milk Gallery his exhibit, ILLUMINATION Who are Poets. Composed of works from Sebring's archives that have been pixilated using digital technology, and promising such illustrious names such as Neil Young and Joey Ramone, this exhibit is definitely worth at least a quick peek if you're in the Chelsea area this month.

ILLUMINATION Who are Poets on view through April 17th.
Milk Gallery is located at 450 West 15th Street, New York, NY.
